The Croatian Veterinary Institute, with a long and rich tradition since 1933, is a scientific and professional-diagnostic-analytical institution that, with its comprehensive activities, makes an immeasurable contribution to the performance of veterinary activities in the Republic of Croatia.
The Law on Veterinary Medicine entrusts the Institute with the tasks of monitoring and studying the epizootiological state of infectious and other animal diseases and perfecting methods for their suppression. The branches of the Institute – the Križevci Veterinary Institute, the Rijeka Veterinary Institute, the Split Veterinary Institute, the Vinkovci Veterinary Institute and the Zagreb Poultry Center – are also working on the tasks of detecting, monitoring and studying the occurrence and spread of infectious and other diseases, as well as proposing the most favorable methods for their prevention and control. .
Through laboratory and field diagnostics, constant monitoring of infectious and invasive diseases from the international list of OIE and determined by the Order on measures to protect animals from infectious and invasive diseases and their financing is carried out.
The Institute pays special attention to the harmonization of laboratory methods with standard methods prescribed by international bodies (OIE, WHO, FAO, AOAC). Also, it is involved in interlaboratory testing procedures for all important animal diseases and for analysis of food, animal feed and control of veterinary medical preparations.The efforts undertaken by the Institute in order to fully adopt all internationally recognized standards are visible: the Croatian Veterinary Institute today has more than 170 methods accredited according to the HRN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2007 standard, which proves that the search methods are standard, updated, traceable and internationally recognized .
