The Croatian Veterinary Institute, with a long and rich tradition since 1933, is a scientific and professional-diagnostic-analytical institution that, with its comprehensive activities, makes an immeasurable contribution to the performance of veterinary activities in the Republic of Croatia.
The Law on Veterinary Medicine entrusts the Institute with the tasks of monitoring and studying the epizootiological state of infectious and other animal diseases and perfecting methods for their suppression. The branches of the Institute – the Križevci Veterinary Institute, the Rijeka Veterinary Institute, the Split Veterinary Institute, the Vinkovci Veterinary Institute and the Zagreb Poultry Center – are also working on the tasks of detecting, monitoring and studying the occurrence and spread of infectious and other diseases, as well as proposing the most favorable methods for their prevention and control. .
Two basic determinants of the Institute’s activities are veterinary public health and laboratory and field diagnostics of animal diseases. The production of healthy and nutritious food is of strategic interest for the Republic of Croatia, and it is also recognized in the priorities of national scientific research programs. The appearance of pesticide residues and veterinary preparations as well as natural contaminants (metals) in foods of animal origin have become a reality, and given the fact that the environment and the health of animals and people are endangered due to this, it is necessary to monitor the degree of contamination of feed, animal excreta and foods of animal origin. , which is carried out through veterinary public health.
Through laboratory and field diagnostics, constant monitoring of infectious and invasive diseases from the international list of OIE and determined by the Order on measures to protect animals from infectious and invasive diseases and their financing is carried out.
The Institute pays special attention to the harmonization of laboratory methods with standard methods prescribed by international bodies (OIE, WHO, FAO, AOAC). Also, it is involved in interlaboratory testing procedures for all important animal diseases and for analysis of food, animal feed and control of veterinary medical preparations.
The aspirations undertaken by the Institute in order to fully adopt all internationally recognized standards are visible: the Croatian Veterinary Institute today has more than 170 methods accredited according to the HRN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2007 standard, which proves that the search methods are standard, updated, traceable and internationally recognized .
The fact is that through extensive reconstructions and the acquisition of new analytical equipment, the Croatian Veterinary Institute has established modern laboratory diagnostics and analytics, which is confirmed by accreditation. The Croatian Veterinary Institute has standardized and harmonized diagnostic and analytical methods with methods recognized in the European Union, and is a leading scientific research and professional diagnostic-analytical institution in the field of veterinary medicine and performing veterinary activities in the Republic of Croatia.
